Brothers and sisters: The Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God. Among men, who knows what pertains to the man except his spirit that is within? Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand the things freely given us by God. And we speak about them not with words taught by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms.
Now the natural man does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged spiritually. The one who is spiritual, however, can judge everything but is not subject to judgment by anyone.
For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him? But we have the mind of Christ.
R. (12) Lord, teach me your statutes. How shall a young man be faultless in his way? By keeping to your words. R. Lord, teach me your statutes. With all my heart I seek you; let me not stray from your commands. R. Lord, teach me your statutes. Within my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you. R. Lord, teach me your statutes. Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes. R. Lord, teach me your statutes. With my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth. R. Lord, teach me your statutes. In the way of your decrees I rejoice, as much as in all riches. R. Lord, teach me your statutes.
Jesus said to his disciples: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?' Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.'
"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined."
When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
